There is a clear trend: ICT is responsible for more and more greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions: it has already reached an estimated level of 4% of global GHG emissions, which is comparable to the entire aviation sector, and ICT energy consumption is growing at an estimated rate of ca. 9% per year. Fortunately, there are ways to reduce these negative effects. One of these ways is DevGreenOps. It is an extension of the DevOps approach to software development. DevGreenOps takes additional inspiration from DevSecOps, GreenOps and agile development practices. It enables teams to incorporate environmental sustainability into every part and step of their software development projects.

I will introduce the DevGreenOps concept as well as helpful tools, open-source projects, recommendations, and inspiring examples, which will help you to implement your own DevGreenOps approach in your projects. All of which will help you to create transparency, generate insights, inform decisions, and ultimately help you to bridge the gap between software that is excellent to use and software that is excellent to the planet.
